Lemp Arts Center, 5/31

Gnarwhal

Marj

Muscle Brain

These were the only 3 kind of decent shots I squeezed out (yeeea Shauna) of my Nikon the other night. It was one of the better shows I've been to in awhile (really freakin dig these bands). Shooting photos at Lemp is always a challenge. Anyone have any advice on how to deal with low light settings? It's especially difficult with the contrast of the extremely bright ceiling lights. I always have problems getting everything in focus in these situations because I have to use the smallest aperture possible just to be able to shoot close to 1/60. Heeellllp?

Damn, facebook is blocked at my work so I can't view your photos. I'll comment on them later when I'm home.

I've had the same problem at Lemp. If you are talking about candid hanging-out shots, I try to stay in the back of the room by the little booths or by the lamp when it's on. As for band shots, I've only taken shots of bands setting up when the lighting was still good enough to take clear photos. I'm afraid to shoot bands while they're playing because I'm afraid they'll end up blurry. Also what ASA film are you using? I have a couple rolls of 800 I want to try using for band shots.

Oh Table, everybody knows that with a Nikon, squeezing out the shot is predictable and smooth. I really like the Muscle Brain shot.. like the way Jim's arm bends the same way as Jordan's mic. You seem to catch interesting things.. like the cluster of guitars happening in the Marj shot. I don't think that those two being a little fuzzy is a big issue, and I really like the lighting in Lemp. In fact, I think the second two have far more character than the first. I would say those are good examples of interesting band pictures.

Sorry I can't help much with your light problem. I'm not very good at that part myself yet.
