I like machines. I like tractors and cranes and things painted bright colors abandoned in parking lots and the sides of roads. High Ridge is pretty good for random construction scenes.
This is my favorite machine shot.

Lemp Arts Center, 5/31
Gnarwhal
Marj
Muscle Brain
These were the only 3 kind of decent shots I squeezed out (yeeea Shauna) of my Nikon the other night. It was one of the better shows I've been to in awhile (really freakin dig these bands). Shooting photos at Lemp is always a challenge. Anyone have any advice on how to deal with low light settings? It's especially difficult with the contrast of the extremely bright ceiling lights. I always have problems getting everything in focus in these situations because I have to use the smallest aperture possible just to be able to shoot close to 1/60. Heeellllp?
Other possible assignment ideas
The other day, I scoured the web (ok, more like typed "photo assignment ideas" into Google and clicked on the first two thing thats popped up) and used some ideas off of random photo blogs/forums to begin brainstorming a list. These are just some starting points and we can make them as broad or narrow as we want. Anyway, let's use this post as a sort of writeboard for future ideas, eh?
- Nighttime; see www.darknessdarkness.com
- Nature
- Close-ups, detailed shots
- Portraits
- Self-portraits
- Black and white
- Live music
- Urban landscape
- Frozen action (done by increasing shutter speed to 1/150 or faster)
- Blurred shots (done by slowing down shutter speed to 1/30 or slower)
- Panning shots: moving object in focus, everything else blurred (done by following movement of individual)
- Animals
- Texture
- Composition
- Plastic camera (Holga); see http://community.livejournal.com/lomography/
- Other cameras in general: Polaroid
- Pinhole; see instructions on how to make a film one here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Juice-Box-Pinhole-Camera/
- Shooting with filters (could even be something as simple as breathing on the lens or holding up a pair of sunglasses)
- Reflections
- Long exposures
- Painting with light
- Shallow depth of field shots: wide aperture
- Deep depth of field shots: narrow aperture
- 3 times of day: the exact same composition, but taken in 3 different lighting situations
- Fill the frame: subject must be composed so that it intersects with at least 3 sides of the image frame
- Triptych: 3 photos shot with the intention of being displayed together
- Copy favorite famous photographer
- Double exposures
- Abandoned buildings/architecture
- Abstract
- Panoramic stitching; see http://www.thephotoforum.com/node/49
- Model photography (posed portraits)

awkward photography alert!
not content with setting up a google pages website and creating a portfolio there, i've gone back to using flickr, and i will be hosting my images there again. although it's a new account, different from my old one.
the new one is www.flickr.com/photos/curtistinsley
i think. i'm pretty sure.
anyway, task at hand.
i did some shots of a particular lady friend, and i wanted to share this one in particular.
thoughts? love? hate? let me know.

Portrait
I'll get this thing started I suppose. This is probably my favorite photo I've taken so far. I'll try to find a way to post more than one photo to the blog from flickr at a time. My flickr is www.flickr.com/wertbob and I try to update it (and post here) as often as possible but my computer went kaput and I won't be getting a new one until the end of June. Comments and criticism are not only welcome, they are encouraged. Build me up, tear me apart. In the name of art!

Assignments!
Alright, so Curtis and I briefly just talked about doing this...
How about if we have "assignments" every month in which we post a particular theme and then all post our best 3-6 pics from whatever we shoot? Since this month is coming to an end, now would be the perfect time to assign a particular theme for June.
Start brainstorming "theme" ideas here!
alright, so...
let's all be best friends. and take pictures of each other, and share them here instead of posting them on our seperate facebook profiles and very seldom viewed flicker accounts. eh?to join, i'll probably bug you about getting in on it, or if you happen to stumble on here, you can email me, and i'll just add you to the list of authors.
cool? cool.
also, i was thinking that this could be a place where we showcase our best work. so everyone doesn't just upload thirty pictures at once. like 1-5 shots a post. i just think it'll be a better experience that way.
also, i don't know about anyone else, but i welcome comments and critiques.
