I'll get this thing started I suppose. This is probably my favorite photo I've taken so far. I'll try to find a way to post more than one photo to the blog from flickr at a time. My flickr is www.flickr.com/wertbob and I try to update it (and post here) as often as possible but my computer went kaput and I won't be getting a new one until the end of June. Comments and criticism are not only welcome, they are encouraged. Build me up, tear me apart. In the name of art!

Normally I wouldn't be really impressed with a portrait if the person wasn't dominating the shot. Even though this isn't so up-close-and-personal, I think the setting is really interesting and the box and wires really reflect him and give it personality.
Me like.
positive: wonderful colors, great (seemingly) unintentional lens glare,
good quality photograph all around
critique: a bit washed out (makes the face hard to read and right arm blend into the background), while it's an awesome first portrait, i'd try picking a less static pose next time around. less directly in front, if you know what i mean.
overall: good eye, and perhaps better camera mastery will allow you to really bring out some of the skin tones and depth without it just becoming dark.
i can't wait to see your next attempt.
Awesome portrait Mike! Portraits are my favorite, although I haven't had the opportunity to try out many posed ones. The thing that really attracts me to this one is the colors... the green and pink/red cross matches all over the place in his shirt, the wires/box, his eyes (?) and graffiti. The lighter yellowy tone of the walls and wires even somewhat correspond with his skin shade. I think the placement of the person is pretty unique and interesting as well. The only thing that kind of distracts me is that thin white strip running through about halfway down.
